Afghan Hound / Ottawa Afghan Hound Rescue

The Afghan Hound is like the runway model of the dog world; tall and leggy with beautiful flowing hair that would put anyone to shame. I got to meet my first afghan hound one blistery afternoon back in November and it is easy to see why people who own them have fallen hopelessly in love with them. They are almost cat like in personality being aloof at first but they quickly warm up to you, but not in the way a happy go lucky lab does, they would prefer to just stand beside you as you pet them. They are also amazing to photograph; These dogs are a photographers dream model! They will walk to the middle of a field finding the perfect spot and then they will stand there with the wind blowing through their hair as they stare off into the distance, only moving to adjust their head to get you a better profile shot. Did I mention they are amazing to photograph? The darker haired dog is Caleb and the blond one is his father Leo, would you believe they were both rescued from the Paws R Us puppy mill? It’s amazing what good care and TLC will do.
